Canadian Independent Bookstore Day 2022

To promote Canadian Independent Bookstore Day 2022, I adapted a custom illustration by Kellen Hatanaka into a collection of promo assets that would serve the client and its members. This layout and design project involved some unique problem-solving.

Variety of Sizes

Kellen’s artwork was purpose-built for a “mix-and-match” approach. After selecting a colour palette and typography, I created individual campaign graphics. In-store posters utilized the full illustration, while others like social headers used isolated details to suit the space and create visual variety.

Intentional Design

Problem solving is a big part of graphic design: Instagram Stories require extra padding on the top and bottom, web banners must utilize horizontal space, etc. With some creativity, I made it all work for a campaign brand that was functional, cohesive, and engaging.

The Result

The client reported a huge increase in public awareness and independent bookstores across the country saw an increase in sales of almost 20% over the previous week because of the campaign.
